7 1/2" long glass ornament with a hand pulled point. Matejko, Poland preeminent painter of the 19th c. was commissioned to paint angels in Krakow's most famous church the St. Mary Basilica. Matejko's angels, set against the blue background of the church walls, with gold stars, are strinking and very Polish. The angel  beautiful, and regal, has brown hair, unlike the blond more prominent in the west. The face of the angel is also, more mature than the child or baby faces prevelant in the west. The angel face is set against a golden halo, and surrounded by red and golden arabesque.
