5 1/2" egg after Faberge's spectacular Gatchin Palace egg with over 250 pearls. The egg was created for Czar Nicholas II of Russia who presented it to his mother the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna on Easter 1901. The egg did open to reveal a surprise: a minute Gatchina palace from St. Petersburg in it.
