4 1/2" diameter, round ball glass ornament. The Carpathian Mountain range is the second largest mountain range in Europe. the name Carpathian is derived from the Greek and means Rocky Mountains. The mountains area extend into southern Poland, and Krakow as well as Wadovice ( Pope John Paul II birth& childhood town) are within the range. Pope John Paul II was an avid sportsman who spent a lot of time in the mountains, hiking, skying & camping. Being in the mountains with his friends & parishioners was also an opportunity to practice the religion and preach freedom away from the overbearing Communist regime. The ornament was made as a reminder of these times in his life.
