A wonderfully carved glass Christmas ornament of Claude Monet famous Japanese Foot Bridge. Set over the equally famous the waterlily pond, both became a repeated theme of Monet’s painting.
Claude Monet a founding father of the impressionist movement moved to Giverny where he had created a waterlily pond on an adjacent piece of land and over it built a small bridge modeled after Japanese style designs. From the 1890 until the end of his life Monet has painted the waterlily pond and the Japanese Foot Bridge repeatedly at different hours of the day, and at all seasons capturing the ever changing effects of light and atmosphere. The painting show the Japanese Foot Bridge, and the waterlily pond under it, some of the trees by it but the not very immediate area as well as the sky or the land surrounding the pond are noticeably absent, though the images are immensely loved and satisfying on their own. The focus o the image is the bridge that covers the whole width of the image effectively dividing it by half, the bridge color is different in each painting due to the quality of the light. The image/ornament is divided into two half, on top are the part of the willow trees that one sees above the bridge who actually surround the pond, while below are the blooming water lilies that cover the pond.
