6 1/2 x 2″ A molded glass Christmas ornament from the St. Louis Art Museum, after the painting of De Zurbaran C 1635, of St. Francis Contemplating a skull.  A monk, identified as St. Francis of Assisi,  attired in a long brown golden robe, his head covered in a hood. The monk is  holding a skull in his hands, and his face and gaze downcast in deep meditation. The simplicity of the image, contrast with the strong impact of the painting, are the hallmarks of de Zurbaran. His painting are mostly of religious subjects. The simplicity of the image, the clear lines of the painting elevate, and intensify the message of holy piety and religious devotion.
