The irises is one of several painting of Irises painted by Vincent Van Gogh in the last year or his life, while in the asylum in St. Remi. Within weeks of entering the asylum, Van Gogh started painting the irises that were growing in the hospital garden. It is one of several painting of irises. This one is of a field of irises, while couple of others have them arranged in a vase. This particular painting was actually considered a study by Van Gogh, and that’s why there are no studies for it. The brilliant colors the lively scene is one only Van Gogh can create.
