Shakespeare carved glass Christmas ornament
4 x 3 1/2″
Glorious glass Christmas ornament of Shakespeare, the greatest play writer of all time. Based on the accepted image of Shakespeare, as rendered in a marble bust. To this day, the mystery surrounding who Shakespeare really was, and who actually wrote the Bards plays continues, the latest movie Anonymous, is just one of many trying to shade light on the playwright.
The Shakespeare ornament made three ways, all shiny, all glitter or flat white like marble. The bust is after the sculpture by Monty an Italian sculptor who worked in England and created sculptures for many of the English manor house. Shakespeare is wearing his hair long as was the custom at the time, has a mustache and short beard. He wears a shirt with decorative buttons and tied up in the neck with a scarf with fringes. His overcoat is lose and white and folded on the left side, the right way for artistic gentlemen to dress at that period.
