The Cloth Hall- Sukienice in Polish,  literal translation draper hall or dress hall, is a 700 years old structure in the center of Krakow that some say is the first ever mall. Built originally for the trade of cloth as well as salt & other goods, the structure standing there today was built in Renaissance style in the late 16th century. The building is in the center of Krakow main square, and is an operating building today. It houses on the ground floor stalls with folk art souvenirs, and the Krakow museum of art on the second floor. Underground are the archiological ruins of earlier times. The market square and the Cloth Hall have been a must stop in every visit of Pope John Paul II to Krakwo. The ornament shows the cloth Hall on one side & the Krakow seal dating back to the 15th C. on the other side.
