became a martyr at this church and his remains are buried there. Later on St. Stanislas became the patron saint of Krakow and Poland. The church name is derived from it’s location on a rock by the river Vistula, and the Pauline monastery connected to it. In his visit to Poland in 1979 Pope John Paul II held the relics of St. Stanislas before a crowd of one million people. He always visited the curhch when he visited Krakow after he became a Pope and lived in Rome. The back of the ornament has the Krakow city seal that date to the 15th C, and is still in use, and seen everywhere in Krakow.
