4 1/2″ diameter.

round ball glass ornament of the Polish legendary court jester, known in Polish tradition as Stanczyk. The Stancyk served under three Polish kings Aleksander, Sigismund, and Sigismund Augustus 1480-1560. The legend has it that he was much more than a court jester, whose jokes carried messages some of them fortelling the partition of Poland in the 18th C The Stanczyk is depicted in litrature, and painting, and he is sometimes even depicted as the symbol of Poland struggle to regain it’s independence. The Stanczyk is part of Polish cultural tradition. The back of the ornament has the Krakow’s 15th C. seal still used by the city today. The Stanczyk figures prominently in the consiousness of any Polish person, as the symbol of struggle for independence. John Paul II was the linching pin of Polish struggle to overthrow the Communist regime, and he is the one who coined the term Solidarnosc.
