A round hand blown glass Christmas ornament of Sandro Bottichelli’s masterpiece The birth of Venus. Painted probably in the  mid 1480’s to the order of the Medicies. The painting after the Greek mythology depicts Venus arriving at the shore when she emerged from the sea fully grown on a giant scallop shale her red hair blowing in the wind.  The painting which is often mentioned and paired with the Primavera is among the most famous paintings in the world.  Both paintings were originally in the palace of the Medicies and are currently at the Ufizzi Gallery in Florence Italy.   Against the green background strewn with flower Venus is standing tall naked  on the scallop shale only her blowing hair covering her nakedness, being blown towards shore by the god Zephyr and the young woman  carried in his arms. Venus image has become so popular and well known and used in many campaigns official and commercial including  the 10 Euro coin of Italy.

Our ornament pays homage to the beautiful Venus floating a shore against the light green background full of flowers.
